When things in life are just handed to you, you lose a sense of accomplishment. The older I get the more I realize this. When I work with my hands, creating something myself, I feel more of an attachment to whatever it is that I have done. Maybe its the artist in me, but I would much rather have my home filled with bits a pieces that I have put together, refinished, or even found rather than furnishing with the latest and greatest.
Take my new (used) chair that I'm working on. We were given this chair that was super ugly. Just a gross, pastel plaid pattern that wouldn't match anything if it tried. Just with a little new fabric and a little time, I have a new chair that matches my house perfectly. Sure there are flaws in my chair, there are flaws in every piece of artwork that I have created, but that is what makes them unique.
This is how I know that God truly loves me for everything that I am, because I know he made me to be who I am, flaws and everything. He put His time and energy into creating me to be something and make a difference, not just to take up some space. No, I'm not perfect, but I am His. I think God loves filling his house with things that mean something to him as much as I do.
